Peel came alive to the sights and sounds of Manx culture when the Yn Chruinnaght festival held its open ’Celtic Gathering’ family day and ceili.
The long-running Yn Chruinnaght festival was marking its 45th consecutive year and, despite initial fears that they would be unable to host any concerts or public gatherings, the organisers managed to organise a week’s worth of entertainment including live music sessions, a spectacular concert, a lively ceili and a family day of dance, music and craft.
The family day took place at the Corrin Hall, in Peel, and featured performances from the Manx folk groups Perree Bane and Skeddan Jiarg, who both danced in the labyrinth in the grounds of Peel Cathedral.
Elsewhere, the choir from the Bunscooil Ghaelgagh sang songs in Manx Gaelic from its school play and there was also music from the youth folk groups Bree and Share ny Veg.
Those who came for the afternoon also were treated to an artisan market of local crafts people.
Throughout the week, the organisers have also been holding an online festival, ’Yn Chruinnaght Tannaghtyn Sthie’, or Yn Chruinnaght stays home’, featuring music and crafts videos form some of the acts and nations that would have been taking part this year.
These include special performances from the Cornish sea shanty group The Bryher’s Boys, John Morran, Eoghan Ã? Ceannabháin, Joy Dunlop and more, which are available to view at ynchruinnaght.com
