There is a new EP on the way from the island’s favourite sonic experimentalists The Clown Calls For War.

The industrial post-rock three-piece, featuring singer and bassist Andrew Clucas, guitarist Brook Wassall and drummer Lee Stevens, are all set to unveil their latest collection of songs and sounds, under the title ’Sacrifice For Purity’ this week, with the album going up on the group’s Bandcamp page on Friday, followed by a general release on Wednesday, December 20.

It is a lengthy five track EP, and features the songs ’Beauty Torments The Mind And Corrupts The Soul’, ’Between The Flash And The Bangs’, ’Murder Under Moonlight’, ’Sacrifice For Purity and ’Juggling Wolves’.

This is the group’s fourth release since forming in 2010, and their first since they dropped their full length album, ’Of Warriors Saints and Sinners’ in 2016.

They were intending to unleash the EP at a launch gig tomorrow night (Friday) at Compton Vaults, with Shady Acres. However, they have had to cancel at the last minute, due to sickness.

They hope to reschedule the release gig in the near future.

Speaking of new releases, the brains behind many of the local bands recorded efforts, Gyp Buggane, has decided to have a go himself.

After pledging to himself that he would release his first single in the year he turns 50, he has finally got round to releasing his song ’Name and Shame’, available on his Bandcamp page for the princely sum of £1.

The track is self-penned and he sings and plays all guitars and bass himself, with Ben Scott filling in with drums.

Gyp said that it is a song that he wrote more than 15 years ago, and is a taster for a forthcoming solo album that, all being well, will be out during 2020.

Aoens, the hefty Prog metal band who released their debut album, ’A Tragic End’, last month have released a video for their song ’Vampires’, which can be found on Youtube or on the group’s Facebook page.

Gig-wise this week, pop and rock covers group 995 will be keeping the Christmas revellers going until the early hours this weekend.

Featuring singer Ian Manton, guitarist Maric Thorpe, drummer Steve Leach, keyboardist Ian Wright and new bassist Stewart Steptoe, the group will be at Jaks tomorrow night (Friday), from 9pm onwards.

Singer songwriter Mae Challis and her backing band will be singing her heart out at Compton Vaults on Saturday evening, from 9pm.

Finally, as an extra bit of weekend entertainment, the Mollag Band are holding their annual, pre-Christmas night of fun and festivities at the Whitehouse in Peel, on Sunday evening, from 8pm.

Support comes from Mike Wade and Ian Allen, who will play an acoustic set of original Ballaghs songs, plus a coupleof covers.
