Instead of staying in one place this year, a local amateur theatre company have decided to come to you instead.
The Service Players are to take their ’Night of Festive Comedies’ out on tour at various venues across the island next month.
The long-running am-dram troupe are to perform two original seasonal plays this year, both written by members of the company, ’The Christmas Quiz’ and ’The Nativity Play’.
The Service Players are taking their play to three different locations, in order to give more people the chance to get to see the plays.
They begin their Manx mini-tour with a night at the Erin Arts Centre on Thursday, December 2, from 7.30pm, followed by a trip up north to Maughold Village Hall, on Sunday, December 5, from 7pm.
They then return to the south, with a night at Port St Mary Town Hall on Thursday, December 9, from 7.30pm.
’We just thought it would be fun to go to a handful of different places across the island, rather than just stay in one place,’ said actor and director Lisa Creighton, who also wrote ’The Christmas Quiz’.
’We have been to Maughold a few times to perform plays, and we always like to visit the Maughold Social Club.
’They are a very friendly bunch and we always get a good crowd there.’
’The Nativity Play’ was written by Garff MHK Daphne Caine, a long-time member of the Service Players, who will also co-direct her play.
It will feature several of the adult cast, including Daphne’s husband Chris, as a group of five-year-old pupils tasked with putting on heir own Christmas nativity.
’It’s a very funny and heartwarming play, with a very poignant ending, which may not be what you expect,’ said Lisa.
’After the interval, we will be performing my play the Christmas Quiz, which I am also acting in.
’That is a very light-hearted and funny play which will provide a nice and fun way to finish the night.’
The plays will feature a strong cast of Service Players regulars, also including Sarah Radcliffe, Jen Derbyshire, Rosie Gallagher, Rachel Martin, Toby Smith, Orry Wilson, Juan Bridson and Howard Caine.
Details on how to obtain tickets can be found on the Service Players’ Facebook Page.
