New Release of the week:

Baad Acid - Aboo/Sound

This much-loved local band’s first vinyl release lands at Sound Records - having so far only been available directly from Baad Acid or at their last couple of gigs - and we’re delighted the new EP has done so.

To celebrate, we’re making it our ’new release of the week’.

Danceable, at-times hypnotic, psychedelic post-punk is the order of the day here, and it’s executed with aplomb, as anyone who’s caught Baad Acid live over the last few years will attest to.

Those who have seen them will also be familiar with the four tracks here, which have been superbly recorded, mixed and mastered by Gyp Buggane at Ballagroove Studios.

’Aboo/Sound’ is both a document of the band’s evolution so far and a launchpad from which they will jump off into their next phase of development.

We at Sound Records are excited to see where that leads.

Sound Records Pick of the Week:

Fontaines DC - at Kilmainham Gaol

If you were ever to choose a more iconic and fitting performance space for the Irish Punk band Fontaines DC, you would be struggling to find a better one than the former prison and home to detained Irish Rebels, Kilmainham Gaol.

Lyrics which are currently attuned to today’s struggles, tied in with a raw and rocking band is what makes Fontaines music so heroic; and hearing it in the Jail with the echoes and stillness, you can feel the building’s turbulent past within the passion of the band, with energy exploding through the mic.

This performance is one of significance for a band whose standards continue to rise with every piece of music released for our pandering ears to enjoy.

An excellent performance, now available on vinyl format only as part of the Record Store Day special releases.
