Manx-based blues and rock duo the Starlite Campbell band took an Australian music festival by storm last weekend.

The husband-and-wife team of guitarist and singer Simon Campbell and bassist Suzy Starlite teamed up with Australian keyboardist Clayton Doley to headline the Saturday line up of the Wangaratta Blues and Jazz festival, playing in front of a crowd of more than 3,000 people.

They played songs of their first album, the successful ’Blueberry Pie’, and Simon also impressed the crowd by jamming and improvising along with Clayton’s Hammond organ.

The headline gig was followed up by an afternoon acoustic slot on the Sunday, and also an appearance by Simon with Clayton’s own band, Clayton Doley’s Bayou Billabong, who headlined the Sunday evening, alongside guitar virtuoso Jeff Lang.

The band also featured on local and national Australian media outlets, with a feature on Simon and Suzy being broadcast on WIN TV.

’The audience were fantastic and we all had a blast,’ said Suzy.

’It was great fun when Simon and Clayton, who is known as one of the finest exponents of the Hammond Organ in Australia, were duelling.’

’It was also great for musicians from the Isle of Man and Australia to work together.’

The band have just released a new single, ’Heart of Stone’, to coincide with the release of ’Blueberry Pie’ on a limited edition double vinyl album.
