It’s your last chance to make a nomination in this year’s Community Police Officer of the Year award.

The award is readers’ opportunity to thank a police officer - who can be of any rank - for the positive difference they have made in the island’s community.

Nominations close on Friday next week (March 10) and the winning officer will receive their trophy at the Chief Minister’s annual awards ceremony, taking place in April.

So far, we have received three nominations. Special constable Andy Culshaw has again been nominated, having won the accolade in 2015.

Phil Colvin, a driver with the Party Buzz, praised ’Smiler’ Andy’s ever-friendly and helpful attitude.

Onchan Pensioners Club nominated constable Jo Williams, who attends their coffee morning most weeks.

The club’s chairman, Greta Douglas, said Jo ’is a very caring person and we all appreciate her visits and support’.

And constable Darran Loader was nominated for the help he gave to elderly Laxey resident Victor Price.

Darran gave up his own time and mobilised the community to improve Mr Price’s house and garden.
