Tonia Lushington was presented with an MBE in a ceremony at Government House for her services to sport and the community in the island.

As Secretary General of the Commonwealth Games Association for over 10 years, Mrs Lushington has guided the association through a raft of challenges in governance and finance as well as helped and mentored multiple sporting persons to get them support from governing bodies and organisations.

Mrs Lushington has also been at the heart of the Commonwealth Games fundraising activities and supported Manx charities and sports over nearly five decades, including the Ramsey branch of the inner wheel and the island’s shooting clubs.

She represented the Isle of Man at several sporting events and at the 2007 Island Games in Rhodes won Gold and Bronze in clay shooting.

Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney said: ’Her contribution as Secretary General and to Isle of Man Sport has been far reaching, has benefitted many and will leave a strong legacy.’

She was one of four people on the island to be named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in June with Tynwald President Steve Rodan, fundraiser Tony Fox and Ivor Ramsden, Manx Aviation and Military Museum founder.
