The Castletown and Districts Branch of the Royal British Legion is organising a series of events to raise funds for the Poppy Fund over the course of the next few weeks.

The Branch will be holding its Poppy Afternoon Tea on Friday, November 5 between 2pm and 3.30pm in the Morton Hall, Castletown.

Admission is £1.50, which includes tea or coffee, and a homemade scone with strawberry jam and whipped Manx double cream.

There will be stalls and a raffle. Everyone is most welcome.

The town’s Poppy Remembrance Concert will be held on the following Friday, November 12 starting at 7.30pm.

It will be held at Victoria Road Primary School with the doors opening at 7pm. Admission is £2.

Tickets are available from ’Diane’s Gift Shop’ in Arbory Street, Castletown, or you can pay at the door.

Admission for children aged 16 years of age and under is free.

The concert’s organiser, Tony Brown said: ’We have contributions from The Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band, along with the children from Victoria Road Primary School who will reflect on armed conflict and the sacrifice of so many, especially remembering those from Castletown who sacrificed their lives during two world wars.’

There will be two raffles, one of which is sponsored by Steam Packet who has kindly donated a £200 travel voucher.

Mr Brown continued: ’We hope that the people of the town, and anyone else who wishes to attend is welcome, will come and support the Poppy Fund by attending the concert and of course remember the service and sacrifice of so many people.

The entrance into the school hall is via the roadway (opposite the railway station) leading to Morton Hall and the Castletown Health Centre, with free parking available at the Morton Hall car park.

All proceeds from both events will go to the Poppy Fund.

l On Thursday, November 11 an act of remembrance will take place in the Castletown Market Square at the town’s war memorial starting at 11am.The public are invited to attend.

l On Sunday, November 14 the Castletown Remembrance Service will start at 10am in the Methodist Church on Arbory Street.

This will be followed by the laying of the wreaths at the town’s war memorial in Market Square at 11am.

Anyone wishing to join the town’s procession to the church should attend the Castletown Civic Centre at Farrant’s Way ahead of the procession’s departure at 9.40am.

This will be led by the Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band and the Standards.
