Millions of viewers on ITV watched this afternoon as the Trevor Hemmings horse Vicente won the Scottish Grand National for the second year in a row.
The eight-year-old stormed to a tremendous victory in the four mile race at Ayr.
It was a joyful - and emotional - moment for Andreas based Mr Hemmings who bought Vicente only earlier this year after Many Clouds died at Cheltenham.
Vicente fell at the first fence in the English Grand National a fortnight ago.
But today jockey Sam Twiston Davies timed his ride perfectly to beat Cogry.
Sam and trainer Paul Nicholls joined Mr Hemmings to hold the trophy aloft.
Mr Hemmings has won the English Grand National three times with Hedgehunter, Ballabriggs and Many Clouds.
Today after winning the Scottish version he told ITV he would like to win future Welsh and Irish Nationals. He said: 'I just need to win the Irish and the Welsh now. I bought him because we lost Many Clouds and I didn’t have a runner in the National.'
And amazingly the owner’s Lessons In Milan finished a creditable fifth in the big race today. A third Hemmings horse, Vintage Clouds, was seventh.
And earlier in the afternoon another Hemmings horse, Cloudy Dream, won the champion novice chase.
Mr Hemmings, a popular racing character, was wearing his lucky flat cap, as he was congratulated this afternoon after the heroic victory for Vicente who was nine - to - one joint favourite.Manx punters often back Trevor Hemmings owned horses and the island businessman always says how delighted he is if local people benefit from his victories.
