This Bank Holiday Sunday (August 29) will see Rumours of Fleetwood Mac take to the Villa Marina stage in a show not to be missed.

The band, who are recognised globally as the ultimate Fleetwood Mac concert experience are being brought to the island by the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group. The show was originally scheduled to take place on March 5 this year, but was yet another victim to the coronavirus pandemic.

Now rolling on full steam ahead, more than 1,300 tickets have been sold as the island has come out to support it. The band was formed in 1999, has performed everywhere, with over 800 major concert events to date, to over 750,000 Fleetwood Mac fans across the globe, and are even endorsed by founding member Mick Fleetwood.

The group consists of Allan Cosgrove, Jess Harwood, Emily Gervers, James Harrison, Etienne Girard, Scott Poley and Dave Goldberg.

They hit that signature Fleetwood Mac sound head on, so their appeal cannot be understated, which is something Manx Breast Cancer Support Group chairman Julie Stokes is counting on.

’They’re absolutely brilliant, people who have seen them have said they are just as good as the real thing,’ says Julie, who is expecting the show to be a sold out event.

The support group was formed in 2011 and to date has raised money for an additional mammogram machine and two new CT scanners at Nobles Hospital, as well as the dedicated Manx Breast Unit, which opened in 2016.

Made up entirely of volunteers, the group has brought several big name groups to the island to raise money, all of which stays on the island ’to benefit people on the island.’

’I think that’s why people are so generous,’ says support group treasurer Anne Dowds.

’Because they can see where the money is being used and how it is benefiting people right here on the island.

’None of it goes across.’

The group has raised over £4.5 million in their time, something which Julie humbly described as ’Not bad!’

Bringing the tribute act across has been no small feat, altogether there are 15 members within the band and crew, all of whom had to be double jabbed to ensure they could travel. The team bring everything with them, the whole production, their own instruments, their own lighting, everything,’ said Julie.

’They have to build it all up in the Villa and then break it all back down again afterwards, so it’s been a whole operation to organise.’

Julie emphasised that the huge scale of the event wouldn’t be possible without the help of companies such as the Steam Packet, who have helped organise the band’s travel, and the Knox group of companies, who are sponsoring the event.

All the money raised on the night will go to the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group, who hope to continue to equip the breast unit at Nobles ’to the highest standard possible with specialised equipment, [which] would mean our unit would be able to become involved in Breast Cancer Trials with another unit in the UK.’

The group already have more big names lined up to come over in the coming months including Killer Queen on February 25 next year, Rule The World, the Take That tribute act, in April and the ELO Experience in June.

Before they all make their appearance, Rumours of Fleetwood Mac will take to the stage on the Isle of Man once again - something which the band are excited about, at least according to their recent social media post which read: ’Can’t wait... Beautiful island, beautiful people, beautiful song,’ followed by a verse from Ellan Vannin.

So, if you thought you could only see Fleetwood Mac in your wildest dreams - you were wrong. Don’t stop to think about it, get your ticket now to embrace your inner Rhiannon at the Villa for a show that could prove to be one of the seven wonders.
