Tribute has been paid to a Tynwald messenger, who died earlier this month.

Garry Homer, who was 76, joined Tynwald as a security guard in 2007, following a career at Ronaldsway Aircraft Company, and, said President of Tynwald Steve Rodan, gave ’faithful service as a messenger and as a friend to members’.

Mr Rodan added: ’He will be missed by us and his friends in Douglas Golf Club and Lon Dhoo Male Voice Choir.

’To his wife, Margaret, and family we send our deepest condolences.’

At this week’s House of Keys sitting, Speaker Juan Watterson also paid tribute.

’Garry was known in this place for his dry wit, which will be very much missed in the precincts and I know also in the messengers’ room,’ said Mr Watterson.

The messengers are a familiar sight to parliamentary observers, ensuring the smooth running of sittings, dealing with the public, distributing important documents and passing messages between Tynwald members.

Mr Homer’s funeral took place at Douglas Borough Crematorium on Thursday.
