A familiar face to many has been immortalised by having a brand new beer named after him.

Bushys Brewery has launched a new range of beer, inspired by ’Raz’ McVeighty, one of Bushy’s most loyal and well-known customers and supporters.

Raz was on hand to pull the very first pint of ’Goth’ IPA behind the bar of his local, the Rover’s Return, watched by Bushy’s Brewery boss Martin Brunschweiller and head brewer Kevin Convery, on Friday night, shortly after the pub had reopened.

’It’s basically a style of beer which I’ve been wanting to produce, a strong very hoppy IPA, which have been very popular for some time now,’ said Martin.

’One of the leading brewers of this style are Scottish outfit Brewdog who have Punk IPA as their main brand.

’We thought if there’s a lifestyle genre which is more in tune with the Bushy’s ethos it’s the Goth scene, of which Raz is probably the island’s best-known member, as well as a Bushy’s ambassador going back decades.

’Our friend Karl Collins came up with the cartoon artwork for the pump clip, depicting a youthful Raz, and graphic artist Amy Cooper incorporated it into the label design with the Bushy’s foxes and Cramps style lettering.

’I’m confident it’s going to be a very popular addition to our range of beer styles, and it will hopefully soon available in the best local pubs as well as in Shoprite.’
