The Met Office has issued two weather warnings.

It has issued a yellow weather warning for gales and an amber one for coastal overtopping.

The strong to near gale force south or southeast winds will reach gale force tonight through until later early Friday afternoon with some heavy showers during this period potentially bringing some significant gusts (of up to 50-55mph). This may lead to damage to anything not tied down, such as garden furniture. Some damage to trees with debris on roads is possible also.

With strong to gale force southerly winds coinciding with high spring tides during this afternoon there will be moderate coastal overtopping around the time of high tide (1:47pm), leading to fairly large amounts of water and some debris being brought onto exposed roads and promenades. Areas at risk include central and northern parts of Douglas promenade, Laxey and Ramsey promenades, Castletown promenade and Shore Road, Rushen.

The forecast:

Spell of heavy rain at first, soon clearing during the morning to leave only isolated showers and with sunny spells developing. Strong to gale force south to southwest winds will ease slightly later in the afternoon, which will lead to further coastal overtopping around the time of high tide in the afternoon (1:47pm). Top temperature 19°C.

Sunny spells and occasional blustery showers for Saturday, with a strong to near gale force west or south-westerly wind easing to become moderate to fresh during the afternoon and easing further overnight. Highest temperature around 18°C.
