This weekend sees one of the UK’s most highly rated blues and soul singers make her island debut.

Jo Harman appears at the Peel Centenary Centre on Saturday, June 16, one of a series of promotional concerts for her latest album ’People We Become’.

Jo has been credited with having one of the finest soul voices in Europe, with many notable names being quick to praise her raw, powerful music.

The lead single, When We Were Young’, was featured heavily on radio 2, and was recorded with guest vocalist, the soul star Michael MacDonald, who later said it was an inspiration to hear her sing, adding that it was a ’privilege to work with her’.

Her latest album, recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, is packed full of roots-based soul blues anthems, and looks to bring her to a new level of attention across Europe.

Her first album, ’Dirt On My Tongue’ was a huge success, and featured heavily in the UK Blues awards.

Her success led her to performing in front of huge crowds, and was also invited by Amnesty International to perform at their ’Ambassador of Conscience’ Awards show in Berlin alongside the likes of legendary singers Patti Smith, Sinead O’Connor and Joan Baez.

Other artists Jo has collaborated with include Motown star Lamont Dozier, duetting with the legendary songwriter on the lead single ’Reach Out, I’ll Be There’.

Tickets for Jo Harman’s concert are £18, available from Celtic Gold, Peel, Shakti Man, in Ramsey, GH Corlett, in Douglas, Thompson Travel in Port Erin and Peter Norris Music on Bucks Road, Douglas.
