Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO) has made a series of changes to its international postal services, including reinstating parcel deliveries containing goods to the United States.

The changes came into effect on Sunday, August 23, and were introduced in response to new international customs and regulatory requirements affecting postal operators worldwide.

Following changes to its systems and processes, customers are once again able to send parcels containing goods to destinations in the US.

People sending goods to a number of European destinations have also seen changes to how customs, import VAT and other charges are handled.

Where applicable, these charges are now calculated and paid when postage is purchased, allowing customers to see the full cost before sending an item and reducing the risk of recipients facing unexpected charges.

Customers are also required to provide more detailed customs information when purchasing international postage.

IOMPO says this should help customs authorities process items more efficiently and reduce the risk of delays or returns.

Under the changes, all items containing goods being sent internationally must now be sent as parcels.

These services are available online and at six post offices - Postal Headquarters and Strand Street in Douglas, Station Road in Port Erin, The Parade in Castletown, Atholl Street in Peel and Parliament Street in Ramsey.

International letter services remain available at all post offices across the island.

The maximum weight for international Large Letter items has also been reduced from 750g to 500g, with heavier items able to use parcel services where appropriate.

IOMPO chief executive Simon Kneen said: ‘These changes are being introduced in response to new international customs and regulatory requirements, helping to ensure customers can continue sending goods overseas with confidence.

‘We are particularly pleased to be able to reinstate parcel services to the United States, which we know will be welcomed by both personal and business customers.’
