A vicar has been suspended from his office.
Rev Clive Burgess, vicar of St Peter’s, Onchan, must not carry out any duties without the Bishop’s permission during the period of suspension.
Revd Alessandra di Chiara, associate vicar of the Parish of St George and All Saints, will become interim minister at St Peter’s for 12 months as from Monday (July 15).
A spokesman for the diocese asked the public not to speculate on the reason for Canon Burgess’ suspension.
He said in a statement: ’The Revd Clive Burgess has been suspended from office.
’This is a neutral act, and should not be taken to imply any wrongdoing on the part of Canon Burgess.
’During the period of suspension he must not exercise any duty of the office of priest without the Bishop’s permission. The Bishop will make a further announcement if there is any change to this situation.’
There will be a service of commissioning to inaugurate Revd Alessandra’s ministry at 7.30 pm in St Peter’s on Monday.
