Rushen Heritage Trust has a new co-ordinator - Vicky Crellin.

Vicky will be the hub of a very dynamic organisation, which has achieved a great deal since its formation in 2014, including staging seven exhibitions, publishing two books and initiating a number of walking trails guided by pioneering use of technology.

Vicky has an impressive track record in handling marketing for large corporate clients while she lived in London, and most recently at Milntown in Ramsey.

The latter - a charitable trust - was a ’great transition’ from the corporate world, she said.

Vicky isn’t Manx, but was brought up here from the age of 11. She went to the Buchan and King William’s College and studied sociology at Goldsmith’s College in London.

This led to marketing roles at some prestigious companies including UBS Warburg, and Kroll Inc, the security company.

In London she was introduced to Simon by friends and it was only later they discovered the Manx connection.

’We only twigged afterwards we both grew up here,’ she said. ’He was St John’s and Ramsey and I was the south, but we did know a few people in common.’

They married 13 years ago and have two boys, Ned, 11, and Ben, nine.

Simon was awarded the contract to do marketing and public relations for the TT, and in April 2010 the family made the leap back to the island and now live in a house on Gansey point in Port St Mary.

Vicky became events and fundraising coordinator at Milntown. She said: ’It was an amazing time, it was a great transition from corporate work to a stately home charity. I was really happy there. ’

But it was ’time to move on’ she said. She left and then spotted the RHT job and said: ’It ticked all the boxes.’

Her education has not covered Manx history and - thanks to Milntown - she knows more about the north than the south, but she’s very eager to learn.

Vicky succeeds Laura King, who plans to spend more time at home with her new baby son and on writing professionally.

Trust co-secretary Professor Hugh Davidson said: ’We are very sorry to lose the consulting services of Laura King who did an excellent job and helped move the trust to a higher level of activity. Vicky Crellin is a worthy successor and has all the necessary qualities needed to continue RHT’s momentum.’

Vicky said: ’In London my desk overlooked St Paul’s -now it overlooks Gansey Bay. They are different but both are amazing views, stunning.’

Given the dynamism of the trust, Vicky has busy days ahead and perhaps not so much time for the view.
