Rose, a seal pup who was found injured during Storm Ophelia in October, has been released into the wild.
She had been transported from the Isle of Man to the Scottish Seal Sanctuary in Hessilhead, Ayr, after injuring a flipper.
The Manx Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says she has made ’tremendous progress’ and achieved the ideal release weight.
The MSPCA thanked Hessilhead Wildlife Centre for caring for Rose and the Steam Packet for transporting her.
Rose was found at the Point of Ayre with a damaged flipper.
She was originally taken in by the ManxSPCA where staff monitored her health and provided veterinary care.
Once Rose was taken to the Ard Jerkyll centre, staff treated her infected flesh wound and organised for two claws to be amputated, as they were badly damaged during the storm.
A number of seal pups around the island were affected by storms Ophelia and Brian, with the Manx Wildlife Trust recording more dead bodies last year in comparison to previous years.
The MSPCA received a large influx of calls about ’stranded’ pups made by concerned members of the public.
The centre responded to all calls and found two seal pups that were in desperate need of medical attention.
Back in the autumn, staff at the MSPCA began with bottle-feeding Rose before she was weaned onto solid fish.
