A TT course dog walking challenge has been hailed as a great success by organiser Pauline Dolman.
The event was helped by fine weather when it took place on Sunday.
The plan was for a dog walking relay around the 37-and-three-quarter-mile TT course, setting out at 7.30am. Each participant was to raise £50.
Kick off was from the TT Grandstand in Douglas and first on the lead was MSPCA resident Roxy who led her handler for the first one-mile leg along Glencrutchery Road and down Bray Hill to Quarterbridge Road.
The baton, or lead, was then passed to successive walkers and their dogs to continue the route around the course.
Mrs Dolman said: ’Each walker waited at their milestone, as allocated, to pass the lead to the next walker and then to myself who went on the Trike by IOM Trike Tours.
’We went over the mountain and then passed the lead to the next walker who was waiting at the Creg.’
She said each walker had been out ahead of the event to check the precise pick up and drop off points and cover was provided by people in cars driving around the course too.
Originally, the plan had been to walk over the mountain section too and discussion with the police had established it could be done. However, she said concerns over traffic, shelter and the possible consequences should a dog become loose from its lead meant they had decided on an alternative strategy.
’We didn’t want to just do it by car so Isle of Man Trike Tours offered to help us out,’ she said.
The trike took over at Waterworks and the last couple of miles were resumed on foot from the Creg.
The plan was to finish within 12 hours and the final pairing, with MSPCA dog Lola reached the finish line at the Grandstand at 7.30pm.
The event raised £3,200 for the MSPCA. The organisers thanked everyone who gave up their time to become involved and are already making plans for the TT Dog Challenge for 2018.
