Some 28 volunteer fighters will be battling it out in the ring as ’Thriller in the Villa’ returns for another bout.
The white collar boxing event takes place at the Villa Marina on October 7 and tickets are already selling fast.
Organiser Chris Mooney said: ’These people have never boxed before in their lives and are set to take to the ring for three two-minute rounds.
’Each fighter has been through a minimum 12 week training schedule provided by local experienced boxers and gyms from which we fully monitor to ensure they are capable of taking part.’
’For the past two years Ramsey has beaten Douglas hands down to win the Rebecca House belt, which is made by the children of Rebecca House.’
Chris praised the efforts of everyone involved in the event, saying: ’The hard work all the volunteers have put in is unreal.
’ The blood sweat and tears is twice weekly as they train for the night.’
The headline fight to close the night will be boxing and martial arts instructor Chris Mayers against pro MMA fighter John Ferguson.
For the past two years Thriller in the Villa has raised more than £37,000 for Hospice Isle of Man and Rebecca House children’s hospice, as well as £2,000 for local clubs and groups.
This year they hope to beat the first year’s target of £20,000.
The rookie boxers that have volunteered to take part include: Eve Brooks vs Vicki Leigh; Warren Spencer vs Adam Fick; Adam Farrer vs Domenico Galante; Chris Bradshaw vs James Arneil; Daryl Fox vs Tom Craze; and Paul Westhead vs Stuart Storie.
Chris said the show has a 100% safety record and that everyone that takes part has to pass a full medical.
For those that can’t make it along to the Villa, the event will also be livestreamed to homes and pubs across the island, with Jaks, in Douglas, holding a Thriller in the Villa night.
Most of the fights have been sponsored by a local business.
