The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice patches.

The forecast:

Today will be bright with sunny intervals and a few wintry showers mainly across the south of the island, however the showers will become more frequent and widespread later this afternoon. Less windy with a mainly moderate northwest wind which will turn to the west this afternoon with a top temperature of 6°C.

The showers will die away this evening, but will redevelop towards dawn tomorrow morning, still turning wintry over higher ground. Temperatures once again falling close to freezing with a risk of ice in places.

Wintry showers at first tomorrow will merge into a longer spell of rain from mid-morning, falling as sleet or wet snow over higher ground, and perhaps to lower levels for a time into the afternoon, giving some slushy and temporary accumulations. A moderate to fresh west to northwest wind with highs of 6°C. The sleet and snow will clear during the evening leaving a dry but cold night.

Wednesday will be mostly dry and bright with sunny intervals and just a slight risk of an isolated shower. Temperatures around 5°C at best in a light to moderate west to northwest wind.
