Malew Parish Commissioners has hit out at people who have been fly tipping in the area.

The local authority said that while refuse centres are shut, residents should still deal with their rubbish responsibly.

The rubbish that has been dropped includes packaging from toys bought for children in the south of the island.

A spokesman said: ’Whilst we understand the difficulties in disposing of large cardboard packing at present with the Civic Amenity Sites closed, we will not tolerate fly tipping.

’This has its own risks in the potential spreading of coronavirus to members of our staff and the public.

’To the resident of Port Erin, hope your daughter enjoys the new tricycle and the resident of Castletown hope the new trampoline is getting well used, but was dumping the packaging in the car park at Rushen Abbey an essential journey? We will be in touch.’
