It is almost time to bring your most cherished items of clothing out from the bottom of the drawer, dust them off and wear them with pride, all for a good cause.
Next week sees the return of ’Jonno Gollow’s Wear Your band T-Shirt to Work’ day, an island-wide charity event that is held on Friday, March 22.
The day is a chance to help remember Jonno Gollow, a popular figure in the island’s music and arts scene, and also help raise money for one of his favourite causes.
Last year saw the first anniversary of Jonno’s untimely death, and his friends and former colleagues at Aston International decided to organise a day of remembrance and wear a favourite band T-shirt to work.
The idea quickly formed into the idea that anyone across the island could join in and donate money to Soundcheck, the youth music project, of which Jonno was a keen supporter.
The day raised £1,147 for the charity, and the organisers of the event are appealing for more companies and individuals to join in and take part in the day.
Jonno was a key and influential part of the local music scene in the Isle of Man.
As a promoter, he was responsible for bringing a number of top international musicians to the island, and he also arranged for many visiting artists to hold songwriting and performance workshops and teaching sessions for many of the Soundcheck members.
Jonno was also a member of the Isle of Man Arts Council, and played a key role in helping local arts and music projects receive funding and backing.
He also organised his own festivals, the Guitarfest, The Three Legs festival and the acoustic fest, which brought over such players as Angelo Palladino, Jon Gomm, Jeff Lang, Jarrod Dickenson and many others.
To take part in the ’Jonno Gollow’s Wear Your band T-Shirt to Work’ day, contact Adrian Cowin through the event’s Facebook page, where pictures can be shared on the day.
There is also a Just Giving page where money raised can be donated.
Adrian Cowin, one of the charity event organisers said: ’Please wear your old band T-shirt, raise money to support young musicians in memory of Jonno Gollow, and also have some fun at the same time.’
