The Mountain Road is closed this morning after snow fell.
Police are advising motorists to find alternative routes.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wintry showers and ice.
The forecast:
A cold start with a risk of ice, as wintry showers continue to affect parts of the island today, giving further accumulations of snow or hail over the hills, with temporary slushy coverings possible at lower levels. A light to moderate north-westerly wind, with highest temperature only around 5°C.
Another cold night as temperatures fall close to freezing with a risk of ice, as frequent wintry showers move across the island on the freshening north-westerly wind, although the showers will become more isolated later in the night.
Mostly dry tomorrow morning with only isolated showers, but turning increasingly cloudy as outbreaks of rain arrive around midday, falling as sleet or snow over the hills at times. Top temperature around 6°C, but feeling colder in the fresh north to north-westerly wind.
Friday will be essentially dry, with bright and sunny intervals developing. Breezy with a moderate to fresh northerly wind with temperatures reaching up to 5 or 6°C at best.
