The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wintry showers.

The forecast:

Very cold today for the time of year, with temperatures only 5 or 6 Celsius at best, and feeling much colder in the strong north or northwest winds. However, most of the day will be dry with sunny spells developing and only a slight risk of an isolated snow or hail shower. A few icy patches are possible on the highest roads.

Tonight the wintry showers may become more frequent, especially around the southwest of the island, with tomorrow seeing sunshine and a continuing risk of a few snow or hail showers. The northwest winds will remain fresh to strong, and temperatures will again be well below average.

Less cold and windy on Wednesday, but cloudy with a little rain at times.
