A couple from Willaston will be spending their wedding night in a van which is literally a work of art.
When Jeanne Faragher and Patrick Caine get married later this month the vehicle they have fondly nicknamed ’The Funbulance’ will be going to the wedding with them.
But it’s no ordinary vehicle: the little camper van has been customised with artwork by former Manx resident, Megan Hindley, and has been transformed into something really special.
It all began when Patrick spotted a mural Megan had done in the New Hong Kong restaurant in Douglas. Her work has also been on the wall at Noa Bakehouse.
Patrick recalled: ’I emailed her and said "I really like your work have you ever done a van?"’
It turned out she hadn’t but she liked the idea and agreed to a commission.
Jeanne added: ’We asked for "something natural" then I was worried it might turn out like a hippy bus with flowers all over it, but it’s nothing like that.’
After doing some original sketches, the design Megan came up with is based around a stream that flows right around the van. In it or beside it are various animals, including a heron, a frog and a pike.
One side of the van has yet to be painted but that is going to feature a willow tree with Jeanne’s cat, Smudge, sitting beneath it.
The finished artwork will be Jeanne and Patrick’s wedding present to each other.
Theirs was a romance that was always meant to be.
They first met as teenagers and Jeanne said: ’We used to go out when were were 13 years old until we were about 18. He then moved away and we both got on with our lives until four years ago when we both met up again and we have been together ever since.’
The couple have four children between them: Mica, Jazmine, Keane and Eoghan.
After their reception at the Manx Fun Barn in Onchan, the van will be parked in a nearby field and they will spend their wedding night there.
