Live-streaming of the TT is nothing new say organisers of the Manx Grand Prix - who have been doing it for two years.

Ned Bowers, of the Manx Motor Cycle Club, was responding to reports that a tie-in with an American TV production company could see the TT live-streamed for the first time.

Mr Bowers told the Manx Independent: ’The 2017 and 2018 Manx Grand Prix races were live-streamed by the Manx Motor Cycle Club.

’All were available through the club’s Facebook page with a total viewing figure for all practices and races of 346,000, including best achieved for a single race of 61,000. These were later uploaded to YouTube and are still available on both platforms.

’Plans are already in hand for the continued live streaming of the 2019 Manx Grand Prix,’ he added.

Enterprise Minister Laurence Skelly announced last week that his department has entered into an agreement with the Pilgrim Media Group and new media company Digital Circus.

The 12-month agreement will allow the joint venture to explore and develop proposals for TV, film, e-sports gaming and streaming.

This could include the first-ever live broadcast of the TT races in its 111-year history.

The venture has been brokered by on-island media inward investment agency Isle of Media. It will include setting up an island-based operation, employing local workers on a full-time and freelance basis and contracting local suppliers to the film and media industry.

Existing production rights awarded to Greenlight TV and distribution rights to North One will remain in place.
