With Christmas just around the corner, we asked people what their favourite festive film and TV viewing is.

Keith, 72, and Pat Trubshaw, 67, Onchan, said that they are sure to watch the Queen’s speech every year, but avoid soaps like EastEnders.

As far as action films which always seem to be shown on TV around Christmas time, Keith said: ’I’m a Robin Hood and Braveheart fan, so things like that - and Gladiator.

’Also, the Morecambe and Wise Christmas specials.

Pat added: ’Although, you don’t really have time to watch anything in the afternoon (on Christmas), because everyone’s so busy.’

Adrian Crellin, 36, Peel, said that his favourite Christmas film is Elf.

As far as other Christmas viewing goes, he said: ’I’m not a massive TV person.

’My wife likes Love Actually. I’ve probably seen it about three or four times - not out of choice’

’And I love the Muppet Christmas Carol.’

queen’s speech

However, he doesn’t watch the Queen’s speech, explaining: ’I don’t really watch TV on Christmas day, it’s more of a time to have family come around.

’We’ve got two little kids, so it’s pretty crazy around our house - and they’re not really old enough to watch TV yet.’

Jan Brown, 62, Foxdale, also told us that Elf was her favorite, adding: ’I don’t tend to watch Christmas films unless they’re funny’

As for TV, she said: ’I make sure that I’ve got everything done on Christmas day, then I watch all the soaps.

’Mainly Coronation Stret and EastEnders and sometimes Hollyoaks.’

She also always makes sure to catch the Queen’s speech, explaining: ’I was brought up with it being tradition to watch it, after Top of the Pops at 2pm - then afterwards you could eat.’

Douglas councillor Stephen Pitts, 65, said the original Miracle on 34th Street was his favourite Christmas film.

Fellow councillor Ritchie McNicholl, 71, told us his was Home Alone - the first one.

As for other Christmas viewing, he likes Zulu, and the Bourne Films.

Both enjoy the Morecambe and Wise Christmas specials.

However, neither watch the Queen’s speech - Stephen saying because ’It’s boring’, and Ritchie because ’There’s always something better on, or I’m having my Christmas dinner.’
