They share a first name, but these pair were born more than a century apart.
The island’s oldest Hector met its youngest last week when World War Two veteran Hector Duff was paid a visit by nearly two-week-old Hector Dalrymple.
Mr Duff was born in Sulby on October 15, 1919 and has led a remarkable life that saw him serve with the 7th Armoured Division across Europe and Northern Africa, taking part in the battles of El-Alamein in 1942 and the invasion of Italy in 1943. His division was in Normandy on the afternoon of D-Day and they continued through France and into Germany, taking part in the Victory Parade in Berlin. For his war service he received a citation and was awarded the military medal for bravery.
Mr Duff later served in the Manx police for 30 years.
Hector Jr was born on October 28 at Noble’s Hospital, two weeks after his namesake celebrated his 100th birthday.
His parents are Andy and Rebekah Dalrymple, of Douglas.
