Forestry officials say no action needs to be taken after the iconic tree at Fairy Bridge was seriously cut back.Today Fairy Bridge looks very different. The tree itself is still standing but has lost a bough. An investigation was carried out following reports that tree had been felled.
Jason Bolt, senior forestry and amenity manager at DEFA, said a licence was granted for tree work in the area to the landowner but this tree wasn’t on the list. But when a forestry officer went down to the site this morning, it was clear that the tree is very much still there - it has just lost one of its twin boughs.A spokesman for DEFA said: 'The tree is still there. There's been nothing done that's illegal that would warrant any action being taken.'The tree is a popular focus for TT visitors and over the last 15-20 years has become festooned with trinkets and mementoes.* For more on this story see this week's Manx Independent, out in the shops tomorrow (Thursday).
