Do you know a police officer who deserves public recogniton for their outstanding work in the community?

Isle of Man Newspapers has opened nominations for its 2019 Community Police Officer of the Year Award.

The award offers readers the chance to thank officers who have gone the extra mile to help them.

Isle of Man Newspapers editor Richard Butt said: ’We are lucky in the Isle of Man to have police officers who strive to make a real difference to the communities that they serve.

’This award is our way of giving recognition and saying thank you to the very best officers in the island.’

Chief Constable Gary Roberts said: ’Police officers can and do make a difference every day of the year, so yet again I am really grateful to Isle of Man Newspapers for its sponsorship of the Community Police Officer of the Year award, which allows ordinary people to thank in a public way officers who have either offered them extraordinary support, or who consistently offer a terrific community service.’

Last year, we had two winners, constables Paddy Moore and Michael Griffiths.

The pair were both nominated by Ballakermeen High School head teacher Adrienne Burnett, who said the ’double act’ were valued by staff, students and parents alike.

The Isle of Man Police Youth Cadets also nominated the pair to thank them for their support during the two-year scheme.

And Constable Moore was nominated by Douglas town centre manager Oliver Cheshire.

The deadline for nominations is May 10, after which a judging panel at Isle of Man Newspapers will choose the winner.

The officer who is awarded the title will receive a trophy at the Chief Constable’s Awards ceremony, at the Gaiety Theatre in July.

Officers can be of any rank and those who have been nominated in previous years can be put forward again.

To nominate an officer send the name of your chosen officer and your reasons for choosing him or her by email to [email protected] or write to Community Police Officer of the Year Award, Isle of Man Newspapers, European House, Peel Road, Douglas, IM1 5ED.
