Charity Disability Networks is offering wheelchair blankets to those in need this winter in exchange for a donation to their work helping the ‘island’s less able community.’
The specially-designed blankets have been donated by retired businesswoman Jane Self as part of her excess stock and are available for those who may struggle over the coming colder period.
The charity said: ‘Many of us are concerned about our heating bills for the winter ahead. Anyone in a wheelchair is going to feel the cold more due to their limited mobility.’
Blankets are made of a washable fleece material, they have two pockets, a Velcro fasten and adaptable straps to attach to the wheelchair itself meaning they keep users legs and back warm, and come in medium or large.
They were previously sold for between £55 and £65 and are described as being suitable for use in the home or on dry days outside.
Disability Networks is a volunteer-run charity that has been operating in the island since 2012, it describes its aim as ‘to provide a simple signposting website and then extend our services in line with user feedback.’
If anyone is interested in giving a donation to Disability Networks in return for a blanket they are encouraged to contact [email protected] or ring 880888.
