Little Wonder Woman Chloe Rollitt has proved she really is a super hero after competing in a recent Super Hero Series Tri-event raising £12,000 for new hospital beds in the process.
Chloe, aged eight, from Douglas, completed a 150m swim in Dorney Lake in Windsor with Paralympic Gold medallists, downhill skiers Menna Fitzpatrick and Jennifer Kehoe.
Challenging at the best of times, Chloe managed the feat despite suffering from a form of paralysis and epilepsy.
Chloe has defied the odds repeatedly in her young life. Born with sepsis and given a 50/50 chance of survival, she beat that in five weeks.
And even when she suffered brain damage that left her with right sided hemiparesis and nocturnal epilepsy she has not stopped moving forward.
Her mum Joanne said: ’Chloe loved it.
’She met other like-minded people with other disabilities.
’It is good to help turn a negative situation into a positive one.’
Joanne entered Chloe into the event, telling organisers that Chloe’s disabilities ’don’t stop her’.
Joanne said: ’She is a keen gymnast, swimmer and netball player and an absolute inspiration.’
Chloe was chosen by organisers to be a part of one of the celebrity teams as they were impressed by her brave story.
The event was sponsored by Marvel Comics, and Chloe chose to dress as her favourite super hero, Wonder Woman.Â
And to give it a Manx flair, her cape has the three legs sewn into the back.
Chloe said Wonder Woman is her favourite super hero because ’she’s super-strong, powerful and can fly’.
Chloe completed the swim section while teammate Tom Mcintyre completed the run/push section.
Chloe’s story was part of the televised event on Channel 4 last Saturday (August 31).
Chloe used the event to raise £12,000 for Noble’s Hospital’s children’s ward to go towards new beds for parents.
She has raised considerable sums for charity and is now involved in the Dream Catcher appeal. ’
Joanne said: ’The whole world around disabilities is lacking a bit but it is getting better with more disabled people on TV and doing London Fashion Week. ’But people with disabilities are just the same as your or I, they just have their own daily struggles. That’s why events like this are an enormous opportunity for Chloe.’
