The Isle of Man Woodland Trust are already back in full swing planting trees across the island after a record-breaking year.
Following their last planting session of 2021 on Boxing Day, the Woodland Trust announced they had facilitated the planting of 7,093 new trees into Manx soil across the past 12 months.
On Boxing Day, the group added another 236 saplings to finish off a project they had been working on at Smeale Farm.
The registered charity (No. 920) formed in 2004, and are an independent woodland trust without connection to any other trusts.
They aim to protect and maintain the existing woodland of the Isle of Man, create new woodland and enhance the existing woodland by additional planting using predominantly native Manx species.
In their post on social media, the group said: ’We couldn’t have done this without our wonderful team of volunteers, our corporate sponsors and of course your generous donations.
’Thank you all so very much for your continued support and here’s wishing you all the very best of everything for the New Year!’
They added: ’We’re rather a humble little charity and not ones to brag as a rule, but this is our best year yet!
’We’ve just beaten our own personal best by over one thousand trees and we could not be more delighted, nor more proud of our dedicated little team!’
The Woodland Trust hosts tree planting sessions every Sunday morning from 10:30am and are always open to new volunteers.
