The Department of Infrastructure has announced that the Mountain Road from Ramsey to the Bungalow will be closed to traffic for six weeks from February 28 to April 15 in preparation for the TT.

The department said major work was needed to fully reconstruct the highway and footpath between Lheaney Road and ’Stella Maris’, below Ramsey Hairpin. The only option was to close the road entirely at this point for the six-week duration, as the width of the highway meant traffic control measures were unsuitable.

Other works have been scheduled to take place at the same time, including line painting, surface repairs, verge maintenance and the installation of TT signage.

The six-week window takes into account the risk of poor weather and fewer hours of daylight.

Access will be retained at all times to Snaefell and the Victory Cafe via the Tholt-y-Will Road and via Hillberry.

Access to the Creg-ny-Baa Hotel from Douglas via Hillberry and Creg-ny-Baa Back Road will be unaffected. It will also be accessible from the Tholt-y-Will/Bungalow route.

The road from Ramsey to the Bungalow will be fully closed from Monday, February 28 to no later than Friday, April 15.

From Monday, April 4, to no later than Friday, April 15, daytime closures to facilitate commuter traffic will be from 9.15am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, between the Bungalow and Creg-ny-Baa.

Much of the work was due to be undertaken last year, but was postponed after consultation with businesses, householders and the general public.

Ramsey’s town clerk Tim Cowin (pictured) said he would encourage people who could to work from home in Ramsey during this period to do so, and to make use of the town library facilities.
