Police and the Department of Education and Children have teamed up to help parents identify the dangers around drugs, alcohol and child sexual exploitation.

They will be holding a series of workshops for parents at schools across the island.

Constable Mike Griffiths, one of the officers running the drug education session, said: ’We have been contacted by numerous parents who are worried about their children and the dangers they face in the modern society.

’The Department of Education and Children has also been approached and together with the police a format has been decided.

’Currently, police officers attend the schools on a weekly basis along with other partner agencies to talk to the young people about the dangers and issues they face.

’This is now an equally important opportunity for parents to keep up to date on the current trends.’

He said feedback from the first session at Queen Elizabeth II High School, in Peel, had been positive.

Dates for the next sessions are: Tuesday, October 17: King Williams’ College; October 18: Castle Rushen High School; October 19,Ballakermeen High School, Douglas. Sessions run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
