As far as world records go, the Isle of Man arguably has more than its fair share, so this week, a group of men set about trying to beat one the island already holds.

The world record for the number of men taking part in a yoga lesson was set in the island in 2014 at 112.

While the record attempt at the NSC fell just short, the men, including the suspicious looking ones with stick-on moustaches, all enjoyed themselves at the beginner session.

Kate Bergquist, University College Isle of Man’s employability and skills coordinator, who organised the event together with the Student Council, said that the date of November 19 was chosen to coincide with International Men’s Day.

The focus of the day is on men’s health, both physical and mental, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality and highlighting positive male role models.

Kate added: ’In recent years in the UK, there has been a positive shift in approach and perception regarding men’s mental health. However, there are still many obstacles that men face, including the societal expectations about how men "should behave".

’On this year’s International Men’s Day, we were hoping to break down some of these barriers by encouraging as many men as we could to come together to share a tree pose.’

The 30-minute session was led by Dave Smyth of Pranashama Yoga Isle of Man and was supported by UCM students and Beach Buddies founder Bill Dale.
