A literary event held in London to raise awareness of issues surrounding climate change ecological issues will feature one of the island’s best known writers.

Author, poet, photographer and film maker Janet Lees (above) will take part in Poets for the Planet, a one-day ’poem-a-thon’ at the Society of Authors in London on Saturday, February 8.

Janet will be the opening poet of the event, which also features more than 40 poets from across the UK, including the published poets Ian McLachlan, Jan Heritage, Sarah Salway and Alan Buckley.

Janet said: ’Poets for the Planet, organised by the charity Verse Aid, is a community of kindred poets, performers, artists and creative activists raising our voices to engage with climate and ecological emergency through poetry in all its forms.’

She is using her appearance at Poets For The Planet to help raise money for Earthwatch, an international environmental charity that aims to tackle climate change taking action through hands-on projects around the world.
