A crafts group in the island is asking young people to pick up a needle and thread and try their hand at a new hobby.

The Isle of Man Embroiderers’ Guild is looking for children and teenagers to give embroidery a go and try their hand at needlecraft.

The embroiderer’s guild have recently hung a piece of textile art work on the walls of Green’s Cafe, in St John’s, which was produced by four of the younger members of the guild, Fliss Shergold, sisters Isabelle and Daisy Shimmin and Megan Butler.

Guild leader Marilyn Cullen said that she wants more young people to come along to the meeting and find out more about the craft that encompasses many different variations of textile crafts.

’We don’t just do embroidery at the guild, it much more wide ranging than that,’ said Marilyn.

’I just think it is a great and interesting thing for kids to learn.

’We do struggle to get kids to become interested, mainly because there always seems to be so many things on these days for them to do and, perhaps, embroidery doesn’t seem to be as exciting a thing to pick up and get involved in.

’But we are confident that if kids come along and give it a go, they will really enjoy it.’
