A UK journalist and YouTuber is filming her experience of running 100 miles around the island’s coastline.
Claire Maxted of Wild Ginger Running, a website that provides tips and inspiration for trail and ultra running, set off on her six-day journey around the Raad Ny Foillan coastal path on Tuesday (July 16) starting from Douglas Head.
She will give historical insights on the island landmarks she comes across during her series of coastal runs to encourage visitors to take on the routes themselves.
Formerly the editor of Trail Running, which she was a founder, Claire will provide a write-up to feature in the magazine.
’I did an ultra that went over Snaefell a few years back and absolutely loved the island. I’ve been looking for an excuse to come back ever since,’ she told the Manx Independent.
Speaking to Claire during her first day of running from Douglas to Castletown, she said: ’It’s been brilliant!
’The coastal paths are utterly stunning and beautiful. Some parts are quite overgrown or rocky and it can be dicey in areas near cliffs so you have to concentrate, but they’re all nice, runable paths.’
Her original target was to run 17 miles, but she ended up completing 20 in around six hours.
The last two days will see her run from the top of the island to Maughold over 13 miles and then back to Douglas Head.
Members of the Manx Fell Runners’ Facebook page have happily put the runner up for a night at their homes after she messaged the group. Others have said they will join Claire on her runs.
She added: ’I’ve got an insight into what the running community is like here. It’s so friendly and welcoming.’
