It’s not been a good start to the senior road cycling competition year with two of the three scheduled events so far postponed because of bad weather.
The latest victim was the opening round of the Canada Life International-sponsored 10-mile time trial league that was scheduled to take place on Easter Monday morning.
This was an extremely wet and miserable day, indeed the decision was made to can it the day before after close scrutiny of the weather forecast.
The series will now begin on Wednesday, April 11 at 7pm from the entrance to the Innovation Centre on the outskirts of Ramsey, on the A13 Jurby Road.
Further rounds will take place over the same course on Wednesdays April 18, 25 and May 2 before a break for the TT period, although there would be an opportunity to perhaps re-run the postponed opening round on May 9.
l The Manx Telecom 25-mile time trial is set to take place this Sunday, starting from the lay-by at Rhencullen, north side of Kirk Michael.
The event headquarters will be Ballaugh church hall, sign on by 8.30am, first rider away at 9.01.
Entries closed last evening. More details are available on the Manx Road Club’s Website manxroadclub.org
l Amelia Sharpe is riding for the four-strong GB Development Squad in the UCI Junior Nations Cup in the Netherlands this weekend.
The event, which is part of the Healthy Ageing Tour, starts on Friday and continues until Sunday.
l The Two Peaks cross-country mountain bike race takes place on Sunday, May 6 over the St Luke’s course.
The start will be at 10am from St Luke’s church, heading up the Millennium Way to Brandywell Road, over Cronk Breck and eventually to West Baldwin village and up the hill to St Lukes. Two laps for the main classes.
l Ellan Vannin’s Appleby Sportive takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7. More details soon.
