Conditions were fairly grim at Ballagarraghyn, Jurby on Sunday for Isle of Man Schoolboy Motocross Club’s first race meeting of the year.

A one-off event for the Ross Cain Plant Hire Cup, the challenging conditions after heavy overnight and early-morning rain left the coastal track well cut-up and technical to ride.

This failed to deter what was a good entry across the various classes.

The combined Auto/65cc class welcomed growing numbers on the grid, but in the 65cc class it was Stanley Dentith who took the win and the holeshot prize with two wins and a second.

His nemesis, Riley Faragher won the last race, much to the delight of his mum, for second overall, with Abe Cain riding well all day for third.

Only one Auto rider took part, however Mieszko Murawka handled the difficult conditions very well - impressing in what was his debut.

Jacob Wilson dominated the first two 85cc Small-wheel races but crashed out in the last race. He at least had the consolation of receiving the holeshot prize.

The consistent Marley Meechan took the overall win with three runner-up rides, narrowly missing out on a win in final race to Toby Lang, with Noah Cooke an impressive third overall.

Travis Meechan was in complete control of the 85cc Big-wheel class with a faultless performance, emphatically taking all three wins and the holeshot award on his KTM.

Sean Crone took second overall with a solid outing, and the ever-improving Cayden Higgins was third.

With a number of locals riding the Hawkstone International it meant the 125/250F category was a little quiet.

Rookie to the class, Ryan Christian, took all three wins and the holeshot prize, while twin brothers Niall and Jacob McCanney battled it out for the other podium spots - Niall finishing runner-up in all three motos races for the No.2 spot.

Port St Mary’s Harry Boyle continues his sand apprenticeship, getting faster by the race, finishing fourth overall.

Ryan Cringle dominated the adult class with Chris Moore runner-up, but two former schoolboy riders - Dave Curtis and Mark Turner - impressed in third and fourth respectively.

l A huge thanks to all the marshals for standing out in unpleasant conditions, and the lap scorers who had to decipher the mud-splattered numbers, plus a massive thumbs up to Ross Cain for the class prizes.
