All of Saturday’s hockey and football games in the island have been postponed because of the weather.

Manx Hockey Association’s leagues were due to resume this weekend following the enforced hiatus for the circuit-breaker lockdown, while Isle of Man FA games returned last week.

But with the island facing an amber weather warning for snow and sleet plus strong winds, both associations have made the decision to call off all fixtures.

The IoMFA confirmed that: 'Based on the latest amber weather warning and with the majority of pitches being frozen and unplayable, all games have been postponed today (13/02/2021).’

Likewise, in a statement on Facebook, the MHA said: ‘As you will probably know, there is an amber weather warning in place which means don’t travel.

‘Football has been cancelled on the island. In line with that, the board has agreed that regrettably, but for the safety of all involved, we have decided to cancel all hockey today.

‘Please don’t travel unless essential. Stay home, stay warm and safe and build a snowman. Oh and watch out for falling trees. It’s wild out there.

‘We will be rescheduling as soon as we can and we’re getting the other fixtures up as soon as we can.’The Manx Bowl rugby clash between Vagabonds Hornets v Ramsey, which was scheduled to be played at Ballafletcher, has also fallen victim to the weather.
