A young tennis player from the Isle of Man had his photograph taken in the company of President Trump at the White House in Washington last Friday.

Former Albany LTC junior Aswin Lizen, 21, is in his third year of a scholarship at Virginia University having obtained a place in the McIntyre Business School.

He joined the university tennis team, was made captain and the UVA men’s tennis team became 2016-17 NCAA University champions.

This resulted in the team being given a reception at the White House on Collegiate Day. They and other leading young sportsmen and women in the US were given a tour of the famous building and had a photo taken with the President.

l Albany’s AGM takes place at Ballaughton clubhouse next Wednesday, November 29, beginning at 6.30pm.

Social secretary, Kirsten Hall, has unfortunately stepped down from the position because of her busy workload, so a volunteer is required to take on the role. It involves taking bookings for the hire of the lounge, promoting club events and updating the club website.

All the other officers have agreed to continue working for the club, but it would be encouraging to see more members attend the meeting.

l Albany’s Christmas Fayre takes place on Saturday week, December 2, in the club lounge from 1-4pm.

It’s in aid of Island Games travel costs for 2019 (Gibraltar) and there are still two tables available for hire (fee £6). These could perhaps be used to raise funds for a favourite charity via Xmas gifts, good-as-new items, cakes etc.
