Latest Isle of Man Netball league results from games played on Sunday, November 1:

Premier Division.

Simcocks Gold Eagles 26, Route 1 Connections 45

In what was a well-fought game, both teams were keen to claim the win on Sunday.

The first quarter saw Route 1 take the lead with some great passages of play from their midcourt players.

With Simcocks Gold trailing ever so slightly, they continued to struggle to feed into the circle as Connections’ defensive duo Eliana Kneen (GK) and Kat Keeling (GD) laid on the pressure and capitalised on key intercepts. As such, the first quarter ended 8-5 to Connections.

Simcocks Gold went into the second quarter raring to go and eager to close the gap. With some good turnovers and rebounds in Gold’s defensive third by Lizzy Power (GK), Jess Hatton (GD) and Millie Kinvig (WD), the pressure was on for Connections.

But Connections shooter Keeling struggled to miss and found her space in the circle with ease and the second period ended with her side leading 22-10.

Both teams stepped up their game in the third quarter, with some great shooting from Gold’s shooting duo Poppy Bowman (GS) and Cristina Salinardi (GA), but this wasn’t made easy by Connections’ defence Cassidy Pizzey and Kneen.

Connections showed some great passages of play down court with Sara Watterson at centre and Paige Skillicorn at WA, leading to some accurate feeds into Keeling as the third quarter ended 33-18.

Heading into the fourth quarter, Simcocks were aiming for half points and gave it everything they could.

With Jen Callister at centre making some key drives into Gold’s attacking third and Millie Kinvig into the wing attack position, they made progress.

Connections continued to capitalise on some forced errors made by their opponents and their own centre pass.

The final whistle left Connections with a comfortable win of 45-26. A great performance from both sides, with the player of the match going to Connections’ powerhouse Keeling.

Division One

Young Farmers A 33, Long and Humphrey Toomraiders 20

Young Farmers started strongly against Long and Humphrey Toomraiders, building up a lead of 9-3 thanks to excellent efforts by both their shooters.

The second quarter saw Toomraiders’ defence step up their game, with Jess Edmonds and Beth Hall putting in a strong defensive effort but, despite this, Farmers pulled further away with the score in the second quarter 20-8 in their favour.

Half-time allowed Toomraiders to regroup as they came out fighting with some excellent mid-court play by Helen Gibson and Emily Hall moving the ball up the court to Emma Cullington with end-to-end goals.

The only difference between the two in the third quarter was two goals from centre passes which were overturned, leaving the score 28-14 going into the fourth quarter.

Courtney Russell and Dani Kelly made the most of their opportunities and, with Kerry Walker stepping up in defence and some great centre-court work again by Gibson, Toomraiders were able to win the last quarter 7-6 despite some great defensive work by Farmers, with the final score 33-20 in favour of the latter.

It’s been a slow start for Long and Humphrey Toomraiders this season, with all bar three players brand new to the team, but they were able to keep fighting and their determination shows that as they continue to gel they will be able to play some solid netball and win games.

Lottie Moore had an outstanding game for Farmers and deservedly got player of the match - a great game by all and Farmers are definitely a team to watch this season.

Division Two

Ramsey Black 21, Suntera Global Ballasalla Delta 21

Ramsey Black made a strong start in the first quarter, but not without a fight from the strong defensive duo of Clare Crowe and Gemma Kermode from Suntera.

There were some great interceptions made from both sides, but ultimately Ramsey pulled ahead with their strong passes and quick movement down the court and the first quarter ended 7-4 to the northerners.

Ramsey continued with their powerful play up and down the court with Suntera trying to recover the goal difference but the pressure was evident, with the hard work from Ramsey’s defensive side making it difficult for the Suntera attack to get a clean pass down the court to their shooters.

As such, the half-time score was 14-7 to the northerners.

Following a tough first half, Suntera switched their defence up by bringing on Victoria Watson as WD.

This change interrupted the flow of the Ramsey attacking side and shortened their goal difference to only four as the third period ended 17-13.

The final quarter saw Suntera make some key changes to their attacking side by bringing on Ciara Jackson as GS and moving Jo Hicks to GA who both made some fantastic shots which helped their side catch up on Ramsey’s four-point lead.

The last quarter was the most nail-biting part of the whole match, with Suntera never giving up the fight right up to the end.

Both defensive and attacking sides made some great intercepts and passes, remaining focused and determined and in the final whistle blew with the score line level at 21-21.

Player of the match went to Clare Crowe for Suntera Global Ballasalla Delta.
