Matty Bostock finished a fine sixth place in the men’s 15 kilometre Commonwealth Games scratch race on the track at the Anna Meares Velodrome in Australia on Saturday evening.

He had qualified seventh in the second qualifying heat (14th overall) earlier in the day, in which Isle of Man team-mate Matt Draper grabbed the last qualifying spot in 12th (24th overall).

In an exciting final, Great Britain international Bostock rode very well and was still in with a chance of victory to the closing stages of the 60-lap race.

In a dramatic finish, Sam Welsford of Australia timed his sprint to perfection to win a thrilling race in the home straight after team-mates Cameron Meyer and Leigh Howard covered constant attacks and reeled in England’s Ethan Hayter on the final lap.

New Zealand’s Campbell Stewart finished runner-up ahead of the England trio of Chris Latham, Oliver Wood and the aforementioned Hayter, with Manxman Bostock sixth.

Matt Draper was one of seven non-finishers.
