Lawn Bowls (Flat Green) Club held its annual Onchan Triples competition at Onchan Park last Saturday.

A large turnout meant accommodating seven randomly-selected teams drawn on the day, with the format of five rounds of four ends each being played with points awarded for a win or a draw at the end of each round.

Throughout the afternoon, two teams lead from the start with the team of Pam Makin, Anne Watterson and Win Kewley closely followed all the way by the team of Gary Lenton, Karen Slack and Roger Pullen.

With both teams bowling well, it led to a nail-biting finish as both ended the five rounds with the same number of winning points, meaning shot difference decided the winner. D

Although the team of Lenton, Slack and Pullen pulled out all the stops on the last end, they were unable to gain the vital last shot and by the closest margin of one shot the team of Makin, Watterson and Kewley claimed the Onchan Triples title for 2020.

Lenton, Slack and Pullen were worthy runners-up, followed by the team of husband and wife Barbara and Mel Reed with new member Libby Andrade taking third place.

The club’s committee would like to thank all members who participated and provided some excellent displays of bowls during the afternoon, with special thanks going to Derek Crellin the chairman of Onchan Commissioners for presenting the winners with their trophies. Thanks also go to all members who contributed to the half-time food and refreshments and to the green keeper for his excellent maintenance of the green.
