The Bradda Fell Race forms round two of the Callin Wild Manx Fell Running League this Sunday.
It will start from Bradda Glen at 10am (registration from 9am) and is one of the longer races in the calendar at 24km. Regulars are reminded that a long race is compulsory to qualify for the 2018 league. The other long races are the Manx Mountain Marathon and Axnfell.
The course has been revised slightly with a new checkpoint being introduced on the south-easterly slope of South Barrule. The checkpoint will be located at a stile on the corner of Corlea plantation and is not difficult to locate with it being on the first fence you reach after turning off from the Round Table in an easterly direction.

POTTED HISTORY
Bradda Fell race began as a sponsored walk in 1975,1976 and 1977 to raise funds for Manx Mountain Marathon Organisation. The first race was in 1978 when the winners were Bob Cowley and Irene Corlett.
Tony Varley dominated from 1983 with three wins and first local finisher twice in six years. In 1986 British Veteran Fell Running Champion, Del Davies, won in 2hr 06min 32sec, knocking seven minutes off Varley’s course record. Tony Rowley dominated from 1991 with five wins in seven years.
A variation of the course was used for an English Championship event in 2015, when Lloyd Taggart was the best local finisher. He, Rowley and Steph Maddrell hold a joint record of five wins between them. Ian Callister has the most finishes - 23 to date.
