Sarah Webster achieved the consideration standard for next year’s Commonwealth Games with a superb run in Sunday’s London Marathon.

Having narrowly missed the time in an event at the NSC in May, the Northern AC chairperson crossed the finish line on the Mall in an excellent time of 2hr 41min 24sec.

This is 2min 36sec inside the Isle of Man women’s consideration standard for the 2022 Games in Birmingham.

Her previous best was 2:44.35 at London in 2019, which she equalled in the NSC race last spring.

Orran Smith of Peel clocked a highly-impressive 2:32.23 so soon after his epic six-day Dragon’s Back Mountain Race in the mountains of Wales.

This was 20 seconds quicker than the 2:32.43 he did at New York in 2019.

Other sub-three hour times by locals in London included former footballer Mark Burman 2:42.23 and Nhlanhla Nzama 2:44.41.

Burman ran in close company with Webster for most of the race and finished 59 seconds behind at the line.

Mark O’Neill ran a very strong race to finish close to the three-hour mark in 3:01.55, as did End to End Walk winner [a fortnight before] Richard Gerrard in 3:02.40.

Other sub-four hour Isle of Man times included: Mai Kakehi 3:10.18, Rosy Craine 3:28.35, Tom Anderson 3:28.53, Simon Bradley 3:31.10, Jade Zorab 3:51.49, Rosie Callow 3:57.04 and Jonathan Callow 3:59.14.
