The home dominance of the Manx Two Day Trial continued in the sidecar class where there was a one-two-three for local crews.

Scorpa-mounted Nigel Crellin and Chris Molyneux won for the fourth year in succession, but they were kept honest by two of the up-and-coming young pairings.

The eventual winners went round a 39-section course for a sparing loss of two marks on day one. But they were kept on their toes by Jack Corlett and Beth Thomas with a magnificent ride on their 300 Gas Gas, dropping only four separate dabs.

Current British championship leaders, Olly Lace and Ealish Baxter, extended the local dominance at the midway point with a single five on their 300 Gas Gas.

Not far off the pace were Matthew Bond and Aleyn Taggart with a cracking ride, dropping 20 to slot into fifth place overnight ahead of the similarly Gas Gas-mounted more experience crews of Adrian and Aaron Smith and Gary Flowers/Jane Birchall.

William Caine and Sam Baxter were forced to ask for a load of fives after the sub-frame of their Sherco snapped, requiring emergency overnight repairs by Mark Bimson with the welding torch.

Sunday’s 36 sections in the south of the island failed to take a single mark off Crellin and Molyneux who succeeded in winning their fourth home national with some ease.

Lace/Baxter went round for an impressive single mark to level with Corlett/Thomas on six marks for the weekend, the latter pair dropping two. The tie-break went to the British championship leaders by a superior count of cleans.

Nigel and Gracie-Mae Scott held onto fourth on their 300 Beta, well clear of the local father and son team of Adrian and Aaron Smith.

Bond/Taggart were the final recipients of a first class award, with John Corlett and Harry Gell eighth behind Flowers and Birchall.
